Candida Gertler & Yana Peel - Recipients of the British Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 2010
In recognition of their foundation of the Outset Contemporary Art Fund, the Montblanc Cultural Foundation awarded Candida Gertler & Yana Peel with the British Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 2010.
The success of the Outset Contemporary Art Fund, a philanthropic organisation dedicated to supporting new art, is accredited to the contribution made by the two young outstanding founders Gertler and Peel. They are endowed with € 15,000 towards an arts project of their choice and with the special limited edition Montblanc fountain pen Elizabeth I.
The ceremony took place on June 30, 2010 at London’s art scene descended on Peckham’s sculpture park. The award also coincided with the opening night of Bold Tendancies IV; a new group show, representing emerging sculptors and artists, supported by the Hannah Barry gallery.
About the Outset Contemporary Art Fund
The Outset Contemporary Art Fund was founded in 2003 by Candida Gertler and Yana Peel as a philanthropic organisation dedicated to supporting new art. The charitable foundation focuses on bringing private funding from its supporters and trustees to public museums, galleries, and art projects. Addressing the need for flexible, early-stage funding within the public arena, Outset enables ambitious non-commercial ventures and acquisitions.
Since its inception, the fund has supported most of London’s leading visual arts institutions with capital campaigns, education, outreach and programming needs and donated nearly one hundred works of challenging contemporary art to public institutions across Britain and abroad. The fund uses its independent platform to give new audiences proximity to the visual arts, building long-lasting relationships within the international artistic community.
In the six years since its foundation the Outset Group has become an important player on the UK art scene, one noted for its energy and intelligence, qualities that flow directly from its two founders.
About the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award
In 1992, Montblanc established the Foundation d’Enterprise Montblanc de la Culture to support and honor modern-day patrons of the arts who devoted their time, energy and money in order to encourage cultural life to flourish.
Each year the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award recognises and celebrates the work of outstanding private patrons of the arts in 10 countries around the world.
To be chosen, a patron has to demonstrate both, commitment to the arts but also the aim that the wider public should benefit as a result of that support. Previous British Award winners included Anthony d`Offay (2009), Louise Blouin MacBain (2008) and Donatella Flick (2007).
