About Patrick Charpenel

Unlike most collectors Patrick Charpenel does not keep his collection private nor does he collect for his private amusement. Charpenel is a passionate believer that the duty of a collector is to share his passion with those not in a position to collect. To this end he has been a long term lender to exhibitions and galleries and has recently made a magnificent gift of 150 works to the new Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC). His collection comprises over 600 pieces, consisting of an overview of the very best of contemporary art worldwide for the last 20 or more years.

About the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award

In 1992, Montblanc established the Foundation d’Enterprise Montblanc de la Culture to support and honor modern-day patrons of the arts who devoted their time, energy and money in order to encourage cultural life to flourish.
Each year the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award recognises and celebrates the work of outstanding private patrons of the arts in 10 countries around the world.
To be chosen, a patron has to demonstrate both, commitment to the arts but also the aim that the wider public should benefit as a result of that support. Previous Mexican Award winners included Andrés Blaisten (2009) and Eugenio Lopez (2008).
