The Montblanc Cultural Foundation awarded Chang-Jae Shin in Seoul with the Korean Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 2010. He has been nominated for his work the Daesan Foundation, established to foster Korea’s national culture, specifically its literary culture, and to make Korean culture generally better known abroad.

The ceremony took place on May 25, 2010 at The Shilla Seoul – one of the world’s leading hotels, in Seoul, Korea.

Beneficiary of this year’s Korean Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award is the non-profit foundation Miracle of Music (MOM), conceived by celebrated conductor Maestro Myung-Whun Chung. Having devoted his life to classical music, Maestro Chung experiences daily the miraculous power of these beautiful compositions that, centuries later, are still able to gather a diverse mass of people into one hall, and hold them enthralled.

It is the foundation’s goal to spread the miracle of music to other aspects of life. Through the medium of music, MOM dedicates itself to humanitarian causes such as raising ecological awareness, and offering opportunities to underprivileged youth.

About the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award

In 1992, Montblanc established the Foundation d’Enterprise Montblanc de la Culture to support and honor modern-day patrons of the arts who devoted their time, energy and money in order to encourage cultural life to flourish.
Each year the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award recognises and celebrates the work of outstanding private patrons of the arts in 10 countries around the world.

To be chosen, a patron has to demonstrate both, commitment to the arts but also the aim that the wider public should benefit as a result of that support. Previous Korean Award winners included Woon Hyung Lee (2009), Se-Ung Lee (2008), Young-Ho Kim (2007).
